The Plot (from Goodreads):

Grace Evans, an overworked New Yorker looking for a total escape from her busy life, books an Airbnb on a ranch in the middle of Wyoming. When she arrives, she’s pleasantly surprised to find that the owner is a handsome man by the name of Calvin Wells. But there are things Grace discovers that she’s not too pleased about: A lack of cell phone service. A missing woman. And a feeling that something isn’t right with the town.

The Reveal:

Calvin had killed Lisa and pinned it on his brother Joe. He kidnapped the other missing women too. Grace found out (and knew he wouldn’t let her leave either) so she killed Calvin. She found one of the women alive in Calvin’s shed.

Grace’s real name was Avery Adams. The “big twist” was that she was a serial killer, presumably picking other serial killers to kill. She had a husband and kids.

The Review:

Thank you to LibroFM for this gifted ALC!

It’s funny that Grace acknowledged that thrillers never seem to deliver on their promised twists, because that was how I felt about this book. This was yet another thriller where nothing happened for the first 90% of the book, and then the author rushed to make up for it in the last 5% with an unbelievable and unsatisfying reveal.

I did love the creepy remote AirBnb setting, but nothing was realistic about a woman staying there alone with zero plans during her travels. No one befriends their AirBnb hosts, do they?? There was only one way to “twist” this story, without the whole book just relying on Grace being a moron.
