The Plot (from Goodreads):

First, there was THE ARRANGEMENT—a scandalous story about Peter and Ainsley Greenburg’s attempt to fix their marriage, no matter the cost.

Next, came THE AMENDMENT—with their darkest secrets revealed, the couple set out in a treacherous attempt to repair what had been broken.

Now, Peter and Ainsley’s marriage will be put to one final test with THE ATONEMENT.

Ainsley Greenburg has always been a fixer.

But her latest attempt to repair her marriage left it more damaged than ever before.

Now, trapped in a vicious game of cat and mouse with the man she thought she knew, Ainsley must do what it takes to put out the fire their arrangement ignited.

But it won’t be that simple.

As Peter closes in on her, Ainsley finds herself driven down a path of paranoia and fear.

Her only hope lies in her ability to trust her instincts, but they’ve let her down before.

This time, there’s so much more at stake, and the secrets waiting to be revealed will change everything.

Whom can she trust when her world is up in flames?

One wrong decision could cost her everything she has left—her family, her home, and her life.

And, with a final showdown looming, Ainsley must decide what she’s willing to let burn in order to survive.

As the blaze continues to heat up, it’s only a matter of time before someone must atone for their sins.

Book spoilers ahead–if you haven’t yet read The Atonement, I suggest you turn back now.

At the end of The Amendment, Ainsley had just left Peter locked in his safe room in their house, which she set on fire, and escaped with the children on vacation. She tells them that Peter got held up at work but will be joining them soon. Suddenly, though, she gets a text from Peter saying that he got out of the house alive. The Atonement starts up right after this.

The Twist:

Ainsley decides Peter is too dangerous to be around her children anymore. Peter sees her coming back from a date with Matt, Ainsley’s mother’s neighbor. He loops their oldest child Dylan into it, trying to get Dylan to kill Matt. He almost succeeds–Dylan shoots Matt–but then Dylan realizes his father was manipulating him and regrets it.

The Ending:

Ainsley and Matt started dating. They moved across the country with Glennon and Seth, leaving Peter and Ainsley’s mother behind. Peter changed his identity and kept stalking Ainsley. Six months before the epilogue, he lured her to his office planning to kill her, but she had killed him instead.

The Review:

Don’t remember what happened in the first two books? Click here for spoilers for The Arrangement and The Amendment

Welcome to the third and final installment of the Arrangement series. I was eager to find out how Kiersten Modglin would wrap up Ainsley and Peter’s twisted, complicated marriage.

I was somewhat disappointed that this book didn’t have any crazy twists, unlike the first two books in the series. There wasn’t much to the plot of this one: just a power struggle between Peter and Ainsley as the reader waits to see who will come out on top. I think the series could have ended after The Amendment.

Anyone who has read the first two books will definitely want to read this one to see how things end for Ainsley and Peter. It wasn’t a terrible listen, it just wasn’t quite as exciting as the first two. Luckily, in typical KM fashion, it’s an incredibly quick listen, so you don’t end it feeling like your time was wasted. Any longer and I would have been irked!

  1. I’m confused. Matt continues dating Ainsley after her son shoots him? I get this isnt a summary but the details arent so clear. Like what did Ainsley tell the kids about their father?
