The Plot (from Goodreads):

The body is discovered on Wolfe Island, under the shadow of an enormous wind turbine. Senior Investigator Shana Merchant, arriving on the scene with fellow investigator Tim Wellington, can’t shake the feeling that she knows the victim – and the subsequent identification sends shockwaves through their community in the Thousand Islands of Upstate New York.

Politics, power, passion . . . there are dark undercurrents in Shana’s new home, and finding the killer means dredging up her new friends and neighbours’ old grudges and long-kept secrets.

That is, if the killer is from the community at all. For Shana’s keeping a terrible secret from almost everyone around her: eighteen months ago she escaped from serial killer Blake Bram’s clutches. But has he followed her, to kill again?

The Twist:

Avery, the father of Matt the bartender, had killed Hope. He wanted to take something away from Harvey because Harvey slept with Avery’s wife for years while they were married. It had nothing to do with the wind farm or Hope’s bribery.

The Ending:

Avery attacked Shana and Tim at Tim’s cottage. Bram had been watching and killed Avery to protect Shana. Tim got shot by Avery, but he was okay. Bram killed himself when he heard the sirens of the other troopers coming.

Bram had killed Carson and left him in Eel Bay.

The Review:

I enjoyed this final installment of the Shana Merchant series. If you haven’t read Death in the Family or Dead Season you should start there, because you definitely need those for the backstory.

If you’ve been following along for the whole series, this book is going to be your favorite. We FINALLY get answers to all the questions we had at the end of the first two books. Shana and Tim finally get together, and everything is right with the world!

I enjoyed this series the whole way through and definitely recommend it. Now that it’s wrapped up, I’m excited to see what Tessa Wegert writes next!
