Summary:
Wealthy Washington suburbanites Marissa and Matthew Bishop seem to have it all—until Marissa is unfaithful. Beneath their veneer of perfection is a relationship driven by work and a lack of intimacy. She wants to repair things for the sake of their eight-year-old son and because she loves her husband. Enter Avery Chambers.
Avery is a therapist who lost her professional license. Still, it doesn’t stop her from counseling those in crisis, though they have to adhere to her unorthodox methods. And the Bishops are desperate.
When they glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.
My Rating:
The Golden Couple Spoilers:
Marissa brings Mathew to Avery to tell him that she cheated. She wants to try to fix their marriage, but she still isn’t telling him the whole truth.
Marissa didn’t cheat with some random guy from the gym, she slept with one of Mathew’s friends from childhood. This person turned out to be Skip, who slept with Avery seemingly before she met the Bishops. Skip was obsessed with Marissa. He was the one who sent her the article about Avery, thinking Marissa would go alone and decide to leave Mathew.
Mathew seems to be responding amazingly well to Avery’s therapy, but it turns out it was all for show. He had figured out about Marissa and Skip the day after they cheated, and had been looking for a way to get back at her. He pretended to plan a romantic anniversary getaway for them, but intended to kill her instead.
The Ending:
Skip and Avery show up just in time to save Marissa. Avery surprises Mathew, a gun goes off, he dies I think. Avery and Bennett spend some time at her parents’ house and then platonically move in with Skip.
