September Update

I figure since this is a blog, I’m meant to be spending at least a little time talking about my life so that you all can get to know me. I’m going to try out doing a little monthly update to talk about things other than books! I’d love to know what you think and whether these are interesting to you.

Summer is over, which is 100% a good thing for me–summers are awful in Vegas, so I’m looking forward to being able to spend time outside again.

I’ve been doing a lot of domestic traveling lately. I’m normally a huge traveler and love to plan and take trips, but obviously the pandemic has put a bit of a damper on that since I started this blog. So I’ve been making up for it with small trips here and there around the US.

I love to check things off a list, so two of my domestic travel goals are to visit every state (I’ve been to 39) and as many US national parks as I can (I’ve been to 19). This summer I added one new state (Oregon) and two new national parks (Crater Lake and Big Bend). When I move back east (hopefully in 10 months) I’ll be able to get almost all the rest of the states and a handful more parks.

Some of you know that my boyfriend Pat is a fourth-year medical student. He sometimes does guest reviews for the blog, when he gets to a book before I do or when it’s one he’s more interested in than I am. He just started a two-month stretch of away rotations on the east coast, so I’m all on my own for the foreseeable future. It’ll be a somewhat lonely two months, but the last time he was gone this long I read more books than I ever had in a month. Hopefully it means I’ll have plenty of time to catch up on reviews, Bookstagram, and other blog posts.

My parent visited this past weekend, so I had a blast showing her around Vegas. It’s even more fun now that I know some local things to do, outside of the strip. We did a few touristy things too, like the Neon Museum.

I’ve got a few more visitors to look forward to this fall, but the next big thing I have to look forward to isn’t until Thanksgiving, when I’m going to Sedona with some friends from college.

Other than that, I’ll just be hanging out at home with my pup and doing lots of reading! We’re probably going to head up to Mt. Charleston for another hike this weekend and to enjoy the weather.

What are you looking forward to?
