The Plot (from Goodreads):
Sophie DiRossi loved growing up in Harmony Harbor. But after fleeing in disgrace many years ago, it is the last place she wants to be. Left homeless by a fire, she’s forced to go back to the small coastal town that harbors a million secrets, including her own. Sophie sees this secret reflected every day in her daughter’s blue eyes-and she must keep it hidden from the only man she has ever loved.
Sophie’s return is a shock for everyone . . . especially Liam Gallagher. The firefighter had some serious feelings for Sophie-and seeing her again sparks a desire so fierce it takes his breath away. Now Liam will do whatever it takes to show Sophie that they deserve a second chance at love, even if everything they’ve concealed threatens to keep them apart. In this special town at this special time of the year, Sophie and Liam can only hope for a little holiday magic…
The Review:
Thank you to Forever for a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
I won Mistletoe Cottage as part of a gifted bundle of Christmas books from Forever, which fits perfectly with my reading plans for the month. This is my first time reading a book by Debbie Mason, despite her extensive backlog. I really enjoyed this intro to Harmony Harbor and will certainly be checking out the rest of the series!
I love a good small-town romance, and especially one in New England with a firefighter! Liam was so sweet and so good with Mia, I was instantly hooked. I read this one on the heels of Last Summer at the Golden Hotel, too, so I was already in the saving-the-run-down-hotel mood!
Sophie and Liam’s second-chance romance was sweet and believable, especially for a trope that sometimes isn’t my favorite. They both had complicated feelings to overcome about the past, but were clearly a perfect match. I enjoyed their banter. Liam was so caring and helpful, and I couldn’t wait for Sophie to warm up to him.
There’s a hint of magical realism in this story that just added to its charm. I was surprised to find that I loved this storyline! Also a sassy hotel cat that I couldn’t get enough of.
This quick read is definitely one to add to your holiday TBR.
