The Plot (from Goodreads):
For Sewanee Chester, being an audiobook narrator is a long way from her old dreams, but the days of being a star on film sets are long behind her. She’s found success and satisfaction from the inside of a sound booth and it allows her to care for her beloved, ailing grandmother. When she arrives in Las Vegas last-minute for a book convention, Sewanee unexpectedly spends a whirlwind night with a charming stranger.
The Review:
I cannot gush enough about Thank You For Listening, and about how unexpectedly emotional of a read it was.
Since Julia Whelan is one of my all-time favorite narrators, I knew I had to listen to her narrate her own book despite receiving this copy.
Thank You For Listening was so relatable from the first page: I absolutely have listened to many a steamy sex scene while flying into Las Vegas. I definitely have listened to audiobooks on 3x speed (I’m sorry Julia, I swear I didn’t do it this time!). It was such a pleasure to get to learn about the behind-the-scenes of audiobook production. Listening to these stories is such a huge part of my life, and it’s so nice to know how much love these narrators put into telling them.
I forgot how big of a fan I am of the unwitting correspondence trope. The messages between our two MCs were so fun to listen to. Their banter was so well-written as they got flirtier with time. There was so much more to this story than the romance, though. Sewanee’s grandmother was suffering from dementia, and Sewanee was struggling with how best to care for her. I loved Blah Blah and her nursing home friends so much!
This story is absolutely a must-listen, and earned a very rare five stars from me.
