The Plot (from Goodreads):
My days usually consist of agonizing over my failing restaurant, worrying about my mountain of debt and nursing my broken heart.
Everything changes when I bump into a man in the coffee shop and claim him as my new boyfriend. To my absolute horror, he turns out to be hockey’s most renowned bad boy, Dallas Burke. To my absolute delight, he goes along with my story.
When his no-nonsense manager and meddling grandmother jump in the picture, they see a win-win solution for my failing restaurant and Dallas’s less-than-stellar reputation.
A full-fledged fake romance complete with contract negotiations, pretend dates and phony PDA.
But as I get to know the real Dallas Burke, who is not the man the press says he is, it becomes clear that if this isn’t real. . . someone better tell it to my heart.
My Review:
My Phony Valentine by Courtney Walsh
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Happy Valentine’s Day, Bookstagram!
I didn’t have time for a gorgeous pink flat lay or heart-shaped book sculpture, but I have something better: the perfect romance book recommendation for Valentine’s Day! Thank you to the author, Courtney Walsh, for a gifted copy.
My Phony Valentine is a sweet, closed-door romance set in the town of Loveland, Illinois. The residents of Loveland lean into the name with a month-long Valentine’s celebration, and famous hockey player Dallas Burke has moved to town just in time for Poppy to claim him as her fake date to the celebration.
Poppy and Dallas’s developing relationship is too cute. Dallas was such a cinnamon roll–always trying to save the day, even for people he’s just met. He bought his house in Loveland to give his grandmother a quiet place to recover from surgery. She’s a great meddling side character! I really enjoyed how Poppy and Dallas were so committed to helping each other, even before their relationship developed into a romance.
Despite the title, My Phony Valentine can be read at any time of year.
I adore Walsh’s holiday romances. They’re always the perfect quick, sweet read, and always so timely! If you haven’t read her Christmas romances, I highly suggest you add them to your TBR for next December. Can we get a Halloween romance next, Courtney??
