My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I enjoyed the premise of a quirky animal-lover romance, and this one certainly had some funny moments. However I didn’t feel particularly connected to any of the characters, they didn’t have much chemistry, and the pacing of the romance felt off. Miles was unlikeable at first but did grow on me eventually. I found Kitty to be painfully awkward and immature, though. She was meant to come across as quirky and cute, but it felt like the author was trying too hard to make her unique. I did add another entry to my list of “least favorite ways authors refer to the vagina or clitoris” at least.

I appreciated that the book balanced humorous animal jokes with some heavier themes like grief and the burden of taking care of ailing family members. However often the jump from funny to heavy to steamy was too abrupt.

I have enjoyed other books by this author, but this one wasn’t for me.
